Hi guys,
i heard that now we can't boot wish a another CPU (firmware limitation from APPLE) is that true?
i have a 2,7Ghz i5 (2011 - 27") wish 16Gb DDR3, can i upgrade my CPU?
what is the maximum upgrade possible ?
what the socket ? and last question, it's really hard to replace the original CPU?
sorry for all that question but I'm really need to upgrade my iMac...

the maximum you can use is i7 2600k but OSX 10.8 freezes with this cpu so its better to upgrade to an i7 2600 ( I've already done this)

The 2011 iMacs have an LGA1155 socket (different from all the other models). If you wanted to upgrade the processor then you have to make shire that it has the same socket and that the TDP is 95w. The only CPU upgrades I would try and preform would involve the ones that apple uses already(the 3.1GHz or the 3.4GHz that come in the higher end 27"). The only reason I say this is because the logic board firmware might be restricted to only certain CPU's.

A brazilian did it, and he got success. His iMac is 27' mid 2011, 2.7ghz with 4gb and 1TB.
This iMac is possible upgrade the video card to 2gb, I will try it, upgrade the processor, video card, and ssd.

i bought a i7 2600K 3.40Ghz Unlocked, and a SSD 520 Mo/s,
