Why does my ice maker switch get turned to the off position?

I have a Whirlpool Side-by-Side refrigerator with an ice maker. The ice maker has an on/off switch that needs to be switched to the right to be in the ‘on’ position. In the past year, there have been two instances where the switch got turned automatically to the off position, which I noticed when our ice tray became empty. What would cause the on/off switch to be automatically turned to the off position without me doing anything?

One thing to note is that this time the tray became empty, I replaced the water filter several days earlier. Is it possible the ice maker switch gets turned to the ‘off’ position after replacing the water filter?
