Battery with low cycle count displays service recommended warning

I have a MacBook Pro A1989 that was gifted to me. It runs just fine with the power cable plugged in, but will not turn on or run at all on battery. I went to check the battery health and the battery has a low double digit cycle count. The toolbar tells me the battery is at 1% and displays “service recommended”. It also states the battery is not charging.

I’ve tried an SMC reset several times, as well as an NVRAM reset but I still get this message. Do batteries crap out on these things easily? Am I able to physically disconnect the battery to reset this message? Pardon my terminology, I have a passing knowledge of Apple products.

To get a better idea of the situation, install CoconutBattery (https://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutb...) and take a screenshot of the main window. iFixitでの質問に画像を追加する方法

were you ever able to figure out the problem? I just replaced my mba 11 2013 with a new battery and Service Recommended status is still there (was there on old battery too). reset the smc and doing a full cycle charge on it now.

I've done that several times with no success. At least I think I have. Is there any kind of confirmation that this has been performed correctly?
