Vertical shadow on the left side of screen

55 inch LG NanoCell 55SM81

Dear community,

I’m considering to purchase a LG TV that has a shadow line on the leftmost 8th of the screen and give it a second life.

Could you please help narrow down where the problem could come from? The best hypothesis I have is a blown backlight LED strip or two even though I mostly see LG placing them horizontally. If that’s the case, I could not understand what is happening here. Could not find that model’s schematics, either.

Don't know the answer but have found out that the TV uses mini LEDs for the backlighting which looks like it is a different arrangement to the standard LED strips.

maybe check how many LED power wires are going from the power board (or perhaps the mainboard) to the panel.

This should tell you how many rows (strips) of LEDs there are although being mini LEDs it may mean that more LEDs (rows?) can be powered by a single supply rail than previously with the usual LEDs so maybe not.

@jayeff what about if they are not using strips but a complete sheet to make it a true mini LED backlight? in that case would the power board only have one backlight connector? Need to get my hand on one of these and check the power board as well as a panel itself ;-) @donrl just out of curiosity, what is the approximate asking price for this?

Made assumption (bad habit of mine ;-) that there would be more than one set of LED power feed wires as having only 1 set (2 wires +ve and -ve) would make for larger wiring to carry the amount of current required given the number of LEDs apparently being used (I haven't come across one of these yet either)

It seems to be a newer release TV as searching online I couldn't find any parts for it to see what the power board or mainboard looked like
