Why doesn’t my landline charge?
The land line clicks on for only a second when I set it in its cradle and then goes blank

These things need new batteries every couple of years:

I know people who use them for 10-15 years and toss the phone set, even though they buy the ones without the nonstandard battery shell.
They claim it's cheaper to replace the phones and wait on a sale.
So would you toss it if you knew what was wrong with it but needed some guidance to fix it?
