Why won't my screen turn on?

I have a 5 year old Toshiba model 55L621U TV

Today the picture just disappeared while watching. I have tried resetting it by unplugging it, but no luck. It just turns on, displays the “Toshiba" logo momentarily and then goes black. And when I say it goes black, I mean off. No sound either.

Prior to this, I have never had any issue.

Any thoughts?

@tylersturgeon so it never really gives you anything past the few seconds of the Toshiba splash screen? You disconnected every video input etc., to make sure that none of those are the issue? Let us know if any of your LED’s give you a blink code etc.Try this. Disconnect absolutely everything from the TV. Unplug the TV and hold the power button down for about one minute. After that connect one video source only. Try to use a local source like DVD player or game console. Then plug your TV back in and try to power it up. Let us know what you get.

This could be a failed Firmware issue as well as any board on the inside of your TV. Confirm please if this is one of those Chromecast TV's. If so, there have been multiple issue that the Chromecast update literally bricked the TV. Again it is a possibility until we can rule other thing out or in.

You also want to go and check the answer by @landins13 on this question Can't get my tv to stay on See if that works for you.

Thanks for the reply.

Correct, I get nothing past the splash screen... it just shuts off after. And yes, it's a "Chromecast Built In" one.

I tried the unplug and power button trick just now with two different components... no luck. Same result: when I plug it in, it automatically starts and goes to the splash screen, then it goes off and I can't do anything.

@tylersturgeon can you try the answer posted on the other question next? I know it'll be a bit of a PITA but it'll help to at least rule this out. Ever since Chromecast stopped supporting this model plenty of people got stuck with a bricked TV. Unless of course you have another chromecast unit that you could plug into the TV.....

That was a great idea! Unfortunately, it says the TV isn't connected. I was really hoping to get more than 5 years out of a TV!

@tylersturgeon I suppose you could try a new main board and see if that will work. That is the board that will stor the info etc. and is also the boad which may give you trouble if it is not related to Chromecast. Just make sure that it doesn't try to go through any updates. Turn your settings to where it avoids automatic updates.
