logic board removal is not going so well!

Try to put the powe/volume flex into place without removing the whole board. Start with the sleep button and move to the volume keys. Screw it in place before the soldering. This will help get it in place and avoid additional risk of tearing the cable while putting the logic board back in place.

I know this topic is two months old, but I wish to add my experience, for the benefit of those who will search and find it.

Yes, I agree with the original poster:the dock connector/speaker section is *very* well glued to the case of the iPod. I managed to dislodge it first by nudging it with a jeweller's screwdriver inserted into the screw wells, and then I lifted the board up from the left side (the one without a board going up). I heard the glue unsticking and after that the board was free. Needless to say, you must be extremely careful and gentle, unless you want to own a useless piece of scrap. It's a bad idea to try to push the board by inserting a tool in the dock connector and push inward.

I too had a sticky speaker under the metal shield, it caused me to break a speaker wire. Not at all like every video/tutorial shows it, you must be very careful with the lower right corner and the speaker if there is adhesive on it.
