Lower battery connector overheating upon battery replacement

I recently had an iphone 11 pro max heat up and go dead on me. Guessing it was the battery, i replaced it, and immediately upon plugging in the new lower battery cable (into the power distribution board thingy near the lightning connector) that plug began to get very hot, to the point of burning my finger within a few seconds. I unplugged it and, through process of elimination, tried disconnecting every other component from the lightning connector. Each time the battery cable still got hot. I tried cleaning out the battery connector and the charge port with alcohol and compressed air to no avail. I have also had issue with the lightning port intermittently not charging before. I am thinking that I have a short somewhere in the lightning port or the greater component including that port, but I wanted to ask: is there any world where that behavior is normal upon pluggin in a new battery? Is it possible that replacing the lightning port may not fix my issue? Thanks in advance.

You are right thinking you have a short. The shorted component will be on the logic board on the PP_VDD_MAIN circuit. There are two sections of the board that are soldered together, the short could be on the bottom half which means the board will need to be separated to find the faulty component.

If you haven’t got the required experience and microsoldering skills you will need to send it to a reputable repairer.

This is helpful, but the issue persisted with the logic board completely disconnected. This phone has two battery cables, one to the logic board and one to the lightning connector/speaker/taptic engine/wireless charge port. With the logic board battery lead disconnected AND the lightning flex cable to the logic board disconnected, and just the lower battery lead plugged in it still heated up. Does this eliminate the logic board from the equation?

@Seth Waag-Swift So it is only the charge flex assembly getting hot? If nothing is connected to the logic board replace the dock assembly.

Yes thats correct. I will do that thank you!!

Did this fix your issue? I am having the same issue with an iPhone 11 pro.
