Can you take apart the display assembly?

My daughter closed the MacBook without realising there was a small bead that had fallen into the hinge (where the yellow circle is in the image) and now the screen doesn’t work.

As the damage is not to the LCD panel itself, is it possible to open up the display assembly and replace whatever component is in that part of the hinge that must have got broken by the bead?

Nope. Everything is likely soldered together. Even if you manage to peel off the screen, you’ll find no part is replaceable.

Replacing just the TCON board is possible with soldering, however if flat cables going into the LCD is damaged, the whole LCD is toast.

Not to mention I have never seen anyone successfully pulling off the screen, non-retina, yes, touch bar, yes, but never the old-retina models.

Here's a teardown of the retina screen MacBook Pro Retina Display Teardown Jump down to Step 8 first image the circuit board connected to the LCD is the T-CON board not the ribbon cabled which connect them together.

Here I think you damaged the board directly as the connector (white part at the left) is where your daughters bead crushed into.

Sadly, this is not repairable, you'll need a new display assembly. Here's the needed part MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2013-Mid 2014) Display Assembly and the guide to put it in MacBook Pro 13インチ Retina Display Late 2013 のディスプレイアセンブリの交換

Thanks Dan, that was very enlightening (and slightly depressing)
