Hi,
The best that you can officially do is to update it to Android OS v.4.1.1
By rooting the tablet you can un-officially (not supported by the manufacturer) update it to Android OS v6.01. This is about the best that you can achieve because of hardware constraints in the tablet due to its age. (Tablet was first released 05/2012)
Even if you update it, it still may not work with certain apps. You would have to check the app to see what Android OS version it was compatible with as some apps now only work with Android OS v7 and up. If they say it depends on version then all you can do is try to install it and check if it installs OK or not
