After taking apart phone, slight pressure on the lcd causes rainbows

I first thought this was related to 3RD party LCD/Digitizer panels but recently took apart a phone and just replaced the dock and didn't touch the LCD. When it is all back together and you put slight pressure on the glass you get rainbow colours as if there is a pressure point behind the LCD.

have you taken it apart again and made sure nothing got left behind between the LCD and the frame of the phone? Does it seem limited to a certain area or does it happen all over the LCD?

Thanks for the replies. As for there being anything behind the LCD I don't think it would be that as I didn't take the LCD off and for some phones that I have taken them off I make sure that it is very clean. The option from removing the battery is possible but I don't think I put any pressure on the mid frame. Basically pull on the battery removal tab at the same time as helping it along with an iPod opening tool. I gently put the lip of the tool under the battery and leverage it up on the logic board. It varies from phone to phone. No two phones have the pressure points in the same spot. I usually snug up the screws pretty tight when reassembling the phone. Do you think it might be related to that? I'm kinda stumped as to what might be causing it.

Sorry it took awhile to get back to you. I did't have enough free time lately to rip apart my phone. I ruled out the 3 suggestions from XicoSolutions. Also it even happens on my iPhone that still has the original glass and digitizer. I'm still confused as to what is causing the issue. I'm also interested to know if there is anyone else out there that has run into the same issue.

From my experience its usually the battery causing it. When you remove it with a pry tool (since the pull tab is usually useless, I always use a pry tool.)

The pry tool can sometimes put a tiny lip on the battery towards the rear of the battery causing more pressure against the mid plate.

I always beat it flat before inserting the battery again. Took me a while to figure this out as you wouldn't believe how small the deformation has to be to cause a pressure mark.

Hello,

A few things I would try:

1) Did you remember to take the blue protective layer off the back of the replacement screen? Many people I see do not do so.

2) Insure the camera cap has not fallen out of it's camera hole during the install. If it has, it has likely fallen into the middle frame area.

3) This one is harder to explain. The logic board, has to fit snugly into the frame. On the left hand side, just below where the big "cable plate" for the lcd/touch/etc is located, these is a screw. Right below this screw is a small cutout for the pin of the logic board to be seated with. If you do not have this pin in the hole, rather resting on the logic board, you will likely see this affect.

If none of these work, perhaps you bought a low grade screen and the matrix is sloppy at best.

Hope this helps,

Do this has worked every time for me.. Take out battery and make sure it is straight not slightly bent and that there is no adesive stuck on it now remove all adesive that was holding the battery in place on the mid frame and also remove the plastic pull tab it is not needed.. Now put on rear case..

That has cleared this problem for me every time cause the bent out of shape battery and adesive was pressing against the lcd for inside the mid frame when the back glass was on.. This method gives it a bita room..

I don't know but did you remove the battery for replacing the dock connector?

If sou could it be possible that the force you used to remove it from the mid frame bended the mid frame towards the LCD? If that happens it could definitely cause this problem as the LCD is then much closer to the mid-frame (only has to be 0.5mm closer or so for this effect)

It's possible that there is a piece of glass behind the LCD. Small pieces are hard to see... Especially the clear pieces. A small sliver in the viewing area could cause the tightness that leads to your rainbow effect.

Did you put all the screws back where they belong? A screw going up against the back of the screen could do that too.. Although an unlikely scenario with this model.

Where is the discoloration occurring on the screen? Lower center, etc.?

Hello,

A quick question, and then a few things to try:

1) Does your screen sit flush with the phone? All the way around?

2) Take the top metal plate off the connectors, use your old screen and simply connect the two connectors. Do not install it, just use your board to boot up the LCD. Does it still rainbow when pressed?

3) Remove all screws from the left side of the logic board, including the battery screw. Your main board will stay in place by your sim card. Do you still get the rainbow?

4) boot you phone up without the back plate on, same issue?

Possible solutions:

1) If the above things do not fix the issue, I'd look at your battery and insure it is not bent or warped from being removed.

2) The battery has that little metal protector for the dock antenna connector. You are putting this below the actual battery connector, correct?

3) Take out your main board and screen, does the frame look straight?

4) Upload me pictures of the back of your phone with the cover off. I would like to see how you have it installed.

Hope something in this post helps,

Xico Solutions

Hi there, I had the same issue with the screens I first started replacing. I found the issue was very minor and was caused by not tightening the inside screws hard enough leaving the possibility of the screen being pushed in slighty and causing the rainbow marks, (I learnt holding down each edge where I screwed helped) another reason was forgetting to take the coloured strip over the digitizer off, this can also cause the funny colouring under the screen. I wouldnt say it helps to take the phone apart and tighten the screws because the more you actually play around with a screen the worse it gets but depending how bad the situation it may actually be worth a try. Just keep this in mind though if your thinking of changing the screen again.

I have been repairing a number of digitizers and LCD's over the last six months. I have had a couple of Samsung Galaxy S4's that are pressure sensitive after replacement.

I am thinking the new adhesive is not thick enough. If the glass digitizer is right on top of the lcd, wouldn't this cause the sensitivity issue as the digitizer is bonded around the perimeter of the lcd and if the glass is in direct contact with the LCD, then this would cause some LCD distortion/ coloration.

I do not know the thickness specs of the adhesive for models where the digitizer and lcd are bonded together by a double sided adhesive.

Also, I am not sure which models use the Clear UV liquid adhesives to bond the glass and LCD.

Just a thought on the adhesive thickness around the perimeter of the LCD keeping the glass just slightly above LCD.

I hqve iphone 4 ,

And after replacing home button and battery I got black stain with rainbowy colors around it in the top left part of the screen.

I removed all the adhesive and that plastic "pull" tape and still have those stains.

Battery is new so its straight I shouldnt have any glass under screen since I didnt replace screen althought had to take whole phone apart to relace home button but frame was clean when I reasembled it.

Any suggestions help
