Day 1 edition Xbox One not reading any discs

My Day 1 edition Xbox One stopped reading all discs (games and movies) no clue as to how, it had worked the previous week with no issues. Tried the following trouble steps: restarting, multiple discs, disabling power saving and instant-on, reformatting and nearly smashing. I found the guide for replacing the optical drive: is it necessary to replace the drive and the motherboard? Saw someone referencing a “daughter board” what is that and is it necessary to replace along with the drive? Do replacements for the Day 1 edition still exist?
