PoweA spectra controller wont work

PowerA spectra controller wont work it turns my console on but that's it I can t move around to choose games ext funny thing is my grandson used same controler for his xbox so I lent his to try and it worked fine know he's went home plugged it in a d it's stopped working on his console w.t.h can anyone HELP plz
