yellowish tint on lg 42lg50-ug 42" and weird noise from the speakers.

My LCD lg 42lg50-ug ‘42’ inch tv is 12 years old and i’v noticed that on the very edge of the screen theres yellow tint right up the edge. This is not an led tv i think it could be the flouresent tubes, (CCFL lights) but i’m not totally 100 percent sure if thats the case we had this tv for 7 or 8 years and still works like a champ! That yellow edge does look weird and it can be distracting to me. If you have any suggestions that would be great support! It also could be the power supply, not sure. One more problem: makes a weird noise when turning on it’s the speakers. I tried muteing the speakers (did work). It did work but i need sound on the TV i’m confused with this and i feel uncomforatble with it. (MFD November 2008) and today it’s 2021 january 25. one more thing i did check for cables and they looked fine but other than that that’s all!

Hi,

With the audio have you checked if the noise problem also occurs when using external sound systems connected to the RCA analogue audio out connections or the digital optical and coax audio out connections on the back of the TV?

Does the noise also occur when using different signal input types i.e. HDMI, Component video+ audio, antenna or even different signal sources e.g. antenna or a “box” of some sort i.e. cable box, media streaming device, dvd player etc?

If trying with external sound systems remember to alter the TV speaker setting in Menu > Audio > TV Speaker to Off as this disconnects the TV speakers and connects the audio to the external audio outputs

If the problem is in the TV and is not the source of the signal then here’s a link to the service manual that may help.

From p.18 onwards, you will find all the various audio troubleshooting flowcharts which may help you to isolate the problem and fix it.

With the yellowing screen, I think that the TV has inverter boards so this would suggest CCFL tubes in lieu of LEDs as you suspected, although maybe not as some of the earlier TVs had inverter boards to drive the LEDs, so it could either be an ageing tube (if it is CCFL) or perhaps a problem with one of the inverter boards. Maybe check the capacitors on the boards for any signs of leakage or bulging ends perhaps.

Hopefully a start.

Also how many tubes are there because the yellow edge goes all the way up.

@Caleb Gerding

Not sure.

Check if there are inverter boards and how many and then check how many wires run from the inverter boards to the back of the panel. Each tube will need two wires unless they multiple them in the back of the panel but at least you may get some idea this way
