LG - new compressor now tech says needs new evaporator

Hello! I moved into a new house and after about 3 months the freezer on our LG refrigerator stopped cooling. It’s out of warranty and I know that LG compressors are notoriously bad. I had someone out who also said we needed a new compressor. The repair helped for about two weeks and then the freezer stopped cooling again. He came back out and said that now we need a new evaporator. Is that reasonable or is he just out here taking my money? I’m trying to figure out if I should just get a new unit but now I’ve sunk hundreds of dollars into the unit sitting in my kitchen.

Hi,

What is the model number of the refrigerator?

Is the compressor motor operating continually and is it getting too hot to touch?

Is the evaporator unit inside the freezer compartment (behind a panel at the back) getting icy cold or even cool? If not check for oily residues on the condenser coils (near the compressor) or on or below the compressor as this may be the signs of a refrigerant leak.

There is a special oil mixed in with the refrigerant that is used to lubricate the compressor and if there is a leak in the sealed system, the refrigerant will escape to the air undetected but the oil may leave a trace. A lack of refrigerant will mean that the refrigerator may not get cool enough and that the compressor will run hotter than it normally should.

The high and low refrigerant pressures in the sealed system would need to be checked to see if there was enough refrigerant in the system and if not, then why not. This would mean accessing the sealed system. Depending on your location, a licensed fridge repairer has to do this due to the environmental regulations regarding the handling of refrigerant gases.

Did the repairer check the pressures to ensure that they were correct after the compressor was replaced?
