I have to turn water off at end of fill cycle,and turn it off before spin cycle ,why?

What is the model number of the washer?
Presumably you have to turn the water off because it keeps on filling past the desired level, is this correct?
Does the happen when selecting both a hot or cold wash option or only when selecting the one i.e. only hot or only cold(not warm as this uses both)?
