Interchangability of logic board in MacBook Pro?

RE: Mac Book Pro - Late 2011, Mod #A1286, MD322LL/A, uses logic board 661-6162, 2.5GHz, May also use # 820-2915A and/or 820-2915B. The original part # (MLB) is C021394010FDV3WA0. The EEE# is DV3W.

Can I use a logic board that’s identical but has a EEE# of DV7 ? I can’t find anything to show interchangability for logic boards anywhere. If the second board is for the same late year 2011, and screen size (15”), Not Retina, will it function if I use it to replace the original board? I believe that with the second board, it was for a model MD318LL/A and not the MD322LL/A. All I can find is that even though they were both for the same late 2011 year and screen size, the 318 used a 500GB H/D and the 322 uses a 750GB H/D. Would that make a difference. ?

I’m lost at this point. It sure would be nice if Apple made this information available to us. Any possible information will be greatly appreciated..

Hard drive size means nothing - I’d replace the hard drive with an SSD to double the speed.

The MD322LL/A is a:

Apple MacBook Pro 15-Inch "Core i7" 2.4 Late 2011 Specs

Identifiers: Late 2011 15" - MD322LL/A - MacBookPro8,2 - A1286 - 2563*

the MD318LL/A is a

Apple MacBook Pro 15-Inch "Core i7" 2.2 Late 2011 Specs

Identifiers: Late 2011 15" - MD318LL/A - MacBookPro8,2 - A1286 - 2563*

Yes the boards are interchangeable.

I have never done this before. I thought that the MD318LL/A would be just a tad slower because it runs at 2.2GHz instead of the 2.4 GHZ in the MD322LL/A . I’m guessing at that. I don’t imagine that it would be significant but I did not want to mess things up that way. The H/D issue was that the 318 was using a 500 GB H.D. while the 322 was using a 750GB H.D. I agree that it should have no real bearing on the operations.

I do appreciate your response and I’m going to do the swap… If it runs (it will not run at all now, nothing on the screen except it lights up.) I’ll consider the SSD. Easy to swap out.

Wait just a min ute before switching boards and give us chance to diagnose your machine. Generally a white screen is a hard drive issue not a logic board issue. Put in a know good drive with a comparable system first. Or boot from your original system installation DVD by inserting the disk on boot up and holding down the c key.

O.K. I'll see if I can find the DVD. What I had was the screen dropping out and at times I got a greenish screen. I thought it was the chips -AMD and Intel that make the screen display. Now it gets bright in a muted whitish color with zero graphics.

It was my understanding that it was the Graphics chip(s) on the logic board that were causing this problem. It was not a gradual change. It was fine one day and bad the next time I started it up. There were times that it tried to boot up time and again and every once in a while, it would open - with the greenish screen - then it would just die. Now it will try to boot over and over but the best it will do is the whitish blank screen. I have an adapter that allows me to read my H/D if it's plugged into my newer Mac Book and it reads just fine. I did not detect any problems with the H/D and I was able to transfer music from I Tunes to my newer laptop. When I looked at the H/D in Finder, it was just like looking at the H/D when it was in the working MBP. That's why I think it is the logic board and maybe bad graphics chip(s).

The GPU issue on the 15" 2011 can some times be rectified by installing gfxCard Status the shuts of the integrated GPU and allows the machine to function properly. Download it from here:
