Overheating MacBook 12 inch early 2015 after few minutes

Block Image

Hello,

I have a macbook 12 inch (A1534, 1.2 GHz)

that after about 10 minutes of normal using the zone around the power button (the right side of the speaker, under the LCD) get hot and the system send notifications about the temperature; 1st) the performance may reduced 2nd) the macbook may sleep to cool down.

My laptop is aged but I just used it in trips.

  1. I put it on a flat table, …
  2. Already reset SMC, … didn’t help,
  3. Battery situation: Service recommended,
  4. Sophos Scan can’t find any virus,
  5. As I remember It worked well before Catalina, after Big Sur it works very slow (However I think the heating is not related to OS)
  6. Have about 170/500 GB free space.
  7. When I still could runs apple diagnosis, I used it but it didn’t find any problem!
  8. Any help would be highly appreciated.

You'll need to install a good thermal monitoring app like TG Pro so you can figure out which sensor is getting toasty. Post a snapshot of the main window so we can see the all of the sensors (you may need to adjust the window size a bit to get all of them int one snapshot) iFixitでの質問に画像を追加する方法

@danj Thank you for replying. I got a picture of the app after the second warn.

Most of sections run between 40-50 C.

I don't see any thermal issues here. I think you'll need to visit an Apple Store to have them look at it.

Another problem is my Mac is too slow. even to empty the trash!

Generally overheating issues can be related to dusty radiator or the fan is barely working or not at all. You need to disassemble your mac and clean the area where the cooling system is located.

Thank you. This model (Core-M) is fanless.

I used compressed air spray to clean the keyboard and USB-C and headphone jack ports but didn’t help.

I'm sorry I though it was another model, if your CPU gets hot to the point where the OS gives you a notification, then it's a hardware issue, something preventing the heat to spread up as usual and the first thing to check is the thermal paste.

You have to replace it a good quality one and make sure to clean everything while you're tearing the laptop.

You can follow this guide from step 1 to step 11 (thermal paste image N°3):
