How to modify screen to play video

Hey, I’m wondering how I can play video content on my GPS screen. the best idea I have so far is attaching the screen to a raspberry pi or something, but if anyone has a better idea or advice I would love to hear it. thank you.

Hi,

LCD displays are not all wired the same

You would need to find the datasheet for the LCD display to know what the connector pinout is so that you know what the function of each wire is that is connected to the display. Knowing this will allow you to match it (by transposing wires or having an adapter cable in between) to whatever the video output wiring is from the device that you want to connect it to.

The voltage requirements for the backlighting etc will also be detailed in the datasheet. This will also have to be considered when connecting it to the device i.e. your device may be supplying too much or maybe not enough and could either damage the screen or it won’t work at all

Search online for any information about the LCD screen, using the make and model number of the display, which is usually found on the back of the display itself.

LCD displays are made by specialist manufacturers to order by the device manufacturer, so don't be surprised that it is not made by Garmin or if there is no information online at all.

Alternatively, search for the Garmin motherboard schematics by using the motherboard’s board number (printed on motherboard) as it should show the pinout and hopefully the voltages etc to the LCD display. Search for (insert motherboard board number) schematics to hopefully find it
