iPhone6s screen is blank but still works.

Yesterday, I replaced the battery in my phone and it worked just fine afterwards. But today, the screen has randomly stopped working. The phone still works fine since I can make/take calls, use siri, put in my passcode, but I just can’t see anything on the screen whilst I’m doing it and so I am guessing if I am pressing the right thing or not. The screen doesn’t stay off forever; it stopped working twice today and I just left it on the table and about 30mins to an hour later, it works. But after a bit of time it turns off again.

I looked on Google and tried the hard reset of the phone. I also tried opening up the phone again and making sure that the screen connectors were put in place properly. These didn’t work.

Will I need to give it to a repair shop?

You have electrical damage on your backlight circuit from connecting the display whilst the battery was connected. You can confirm this by connecting it to 3uTools and see if it displays your screen or shine a torch on the screen when booting and see if you can make out the apple logo. If not it is an image problem and wouldn’t be worth repairing.

There are about 9 components on the backlight circuit that could have been damaged but if you are lucky it could just be one of the filters.

You will not be able to repair this yourself unless you have the equipment and experience in microsoldering. The repair cost would be around $100 or more if the LCD connector needs replacing. It might be time for an upgrade.

I don't know how to use the 3uTools application, but I tried the flashlight whilst the phone was rebooting and I could very faintly make out the apple symbol.

@EdwinG Defiantly backlight. It will be one of the components that I have shown. They are filters, diodes, capacitors, inductors and one IC. If you have any shops around that offers microsoldering take it in if it is just a filter they might not charge much.

Alright, thanks for the help :)

Hi Edwin,

How unfortunate. This sounds to me like a logic board problem. If it would be a problem with the screen or connectors, usually it will work all the time, or none of the time. Talking about the iPhone 6s I would not recommend bringing this to a repair shop. The shop I work at will only start doing logic board repairs from €80 and up. Meaning if you would repair it it would be close to the cost of an iPhone 6s. And repair the problem you have will not guarantee you that no other problems can occur after. I would suggest looking for another phone.

Kind regards

Well, one thing I forgot to add (which I should have) is that whilst me and my dad were putting the connectors back in, some smoke came from there while it was being put in. If this is the problem do you know how much it would cost?

Also, the screen has not worked for a few hours now so I'm pretty sure it won't come back on again.

EdwinG double check on the components on your logic board. Make sure that none came loose or even off. Check the connectors carefully for any burned pins etc. If all that is okay I’d try a new display assembly since they are still affordable.

@EdwinG sounds like something got shorted out (got smoked) while you re-assembled it. At this point you will really have to take a very close look on your logic board. You need a magnifying glass etc. to see if you can find any missing, charred or otherwise damaged components. If so, you would need to either have the tools and skills to do some board level repair or you would need the assistance of experts like @imicrosoldering or @refectio

Post some really good pictures of your logic board with your QUESTION so that we can see what you see. iFixitでの質問に画像を追加する方法

@oldturkey03 Oh right. Now that I think back to it, I reconnected the battery first before the screen connectors, but forgot about this in the process since the video I was watching didn't say not to do so.

Do you know what tools I would need to repair this?

さんによる

EdwinG that will entirely depend on what went up in smoke. Do an inspection first. Micro Soldering equipment includes amongst many other things a decent microscope, a good rework stations as well as lots of practice
