Taking off a handle that's been hot glued

Trying to help a friend fix his drift stick, however he forgot to mention to me when I started this project that he had hot glued one of the handles on, which makes it so I cannot access the inside of the controller, was wondering if there was a way of removing the handle without resorting to something drastic like cutting it off (I have extra handles). Any and all solutions welcomed!

Get the bottle of alcohol (91%+ isopropyl preferred) out to do this. Hot glue breaks down in the presence of alcohol, so what you can do to remove it is drip some on the side with it, let it creep in and then it should break with time.

Do you think the alcohol will be able to fit in between the small gap? It’s really well put, but I’ll definitely try this when I get more rubbing alcohol.

@J C Yeah what you may need to do is lift it off enough you can stick some in with a syringe or other way to get it to flow.

@nick

I would recommend using Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available from electronics parts stores) over rubbing alcohol, as it leaves no conductive residues and also evaporates more quickly.

Rubbing alcohol is usually <70% IPA, and can contain additives which may leave residues, conductive or otherwise. It is OK to use if you can't get the purer IPA but my preference would be the 99%+ first.

Cheers

@jayeff just to be clear in the States we use the term interchangeably. Rubbing alcohol is sometimes referred to as isopropyl. I usually use 91% since it's easier to get.

Hi @nick ,

Different topic but I'd be interested on your take on this one as I'm off to bed

Can a NVMe SSD work in a PCIe slot used for WLAN or WWAN as I can't think where else the user could have inserted it?

Cheers.
