Why is my start button intermittently starting?

I have a Kenmore Elite Dryer, Model 110.87892601. Recently when trying to start the dry cycle we have to push and hold the start button for over 30 seconds to get it to start. What could be the issue, does the start button need to be replaced. Eventually, it starts but takes awhile. I want to try to fix it before it no longer decides to turn on. Thanks for your help
