Green Tint on MacBook Pro Screen after Staingate removal
I’ve trawled Google and many people have the same problem I do, yet no one seems to know for sure what causes this, so let me give my story, and if anyone knows if there’s a solution other than getting the display replaced (which is really expensive) then I’d love to know.
My Macbook Pro screen was originally plagued with Staingate. It was severely limiting my productivity so I decided to follow the internet guides to remove it, which was by no means easy. The original listerine suggestion simply did not work, so I decided to make a concoction of listerine, baking soda, toothpaste, Jif, and isopropyl alcohol. That did the trick! Staingate completely gone and screen looking amazingly like new!!
My excitement soon turned to disappointment when I noticed that now a green tint appears on the screen that is exactly the same as the screenshot below:
After first doing the clean, the greent tint was extreme. Over time it’s diminished. Now, it only appears if I have my macbook powered down for a couple of hours, then when I power it back on it appears. It will DISAPPEAR after about 20 minutes at which point the screen looks completely fine! It will stay that way until I power it off and repeat.
Now obviously I know I likely damaged the screen through the powerful staingate solution, please note I accepted this as a risk and it is what it is. Purpose of this post is if someone can tell me what MIGHT be the problem and if there’s any such solution. E.g. I never knew the solution could have ‘seeped’ behind the display so I don’t really know how or why it got damaged. Things I’ve tried are disconnecting, cleaning and reconnecting the LVDS cable and also just blow drying the bottom of the screen in case some liquid seeped in there and the green tint is caused by some water damage.
So yeh, I can still use my mac (luckily!) because the green tint goes away after 20 mins, this post is more about if there’s ANY solution I can try and also from a curiousity perspective how what I did damaged the screen. Thanks!
