Dead APU? All capacitors behind shorted

Hi. I have a PS4 Slim I was trying to fix for a few months.

Earlier this year I tried turning on my PS4 to no light or beep. Figuring it was the power supply, I ordered a new one and waited 3 months for a replacement.

After replacing the power supply, it did turn on, but only for a period of time. After it suddenly turned off again, I tried turning it on again to no response. It took several attempts to get the PS4 to boot, but it would then turn off within seconds or minutes. It hasn’t turned on since.

I opened up the system and tested the 5v cable with my multimeter, which is drawing voltage (My board is a SAD-001.) The old power supply wasn’t drawing voltage at all. With the help of a generous person on Reddit, the issue was traced to the APU, where I found that almost every capacitor behind it was shorted (continuity on both sides.)

Does this mean the APU has died? I’m not sure how it was still able to boot a few times after replacing the PSU if it has. Could there have been a power surge that killed both the power supply and the APU? My power strip does have a surge protector?

If anyone has an explanation, please let me know. Thank you in advance.
