Broken screen can't boot from external monitor

This macbook doesn’t have OS installed. I can’t boot it from an external monitor. I unplugged the video connector and boot it with an HDMI adapter but it’s not working.

Can you explain a bit more on what is broken with the screen. Disconnecting it won't really alter things, in fact it makes it more complex! Post a pic or two iFixitでの質問に画像を追加する方法

Are you trying to boot into recovery mode in order to install an OS?

Perhaps try putting it in Target disk mode (Hold down T when starting), and install OS via thunderbolt cable from another machine, and see if you can the use external display
