my iphone 8 has a weird power problem where it won’t turn on with the side button or a charger plugged in but i can put in dfu mode and itunes recognizes it but it won’t restore because it never reconnects after itunes kicks it out of dfu mode. is this fixable cause i’m stumped

This sounds like a NAND or CPU problem. When it exits out of DFU mode it is not getting instructions on what to do next that’s why it never reconnects to iTunes. The only thing I would try is replacing the battery as DFU mode doesn’t use much power so when it switches from that to normal mode if the battery was faulty and couldn’t supply enough amps it would shut down.

letting it die and then plugging it in caused the low battery symbol to come on the screen followed by the apple logo which disappeared after a few seconds and i was back to the original issue
I would definitely replace the battery
