When installing a new hard drive with a stick-on thermal sensor, where does the end of the sensor cable attach to the motherboard if there is no HDD TEMP port? The EMC 2309 27” iMac I’m fixing does not have one at the top of the board where most pictures show it.

The 2011 model uses the SATA power connections instead of a direct logic board connection along the top edge the Late 2009 uses which is why you can’t locate it.
On the back side of the logic board is where the connection is, even still you don’t access it here.
The OWC 2011 in-Line sensor for the 2011 model plugs into the drive SATA connector and the drives SATA cable is then connected into it

Double check your model info. I suspect you really have a 2011 27" iMac which uses a different method than this series.
Your picture is of a 2011 model.

I realized from your comment that someone must have upgraded the iMac with a 2011 motherboard. The case of the iMac does in fact say EMC 2309 (2009 model). Simple issue I couldn't foresee until opening it up. Ordering the proper 2011 Thermal Kit. Thanks!
