After I tried inserting a new disc drive ( the last one was wearing out) the playstation will go into standby but when I turn it on it turns off about a second or 2 and then there is nothing, no power at all unless I hit the button then it goes into standby mode. Ive cleaned the system and have tried a few things but nothing is working

Yeah, I recognize this issue. Is there any dust inside? if yes, clean it first and then try it again. At my end, it was a bad power supply. So you can buy one to test it. Otherwise it’s motherboard related, I’m afraid.

Thank you I was suspecting as such I just really hope it aint my motherboard
Your welcome! Yeah, I would first test it with a new power supply (easy to do), if that won't work, then just return the power supply. If it's motherboard related, you need to check if there are failed components on it. Otherwise you need to measure, or you can bring it to an repair shop, or you need to buy a new motherboard somewhere (not easy to find and they are not cheap).
