Laptop battery disables any charger that is plugged in, won't charge.

I have a Dell Latitude 5490 that I’m trying to troubleshoot, it won’t charge but will also disable any chargers plugged into it until they are disconnected from power and plugged back in. I have tried about 4 compatible chargers (I have plenty of spares in stock) with the same results. These chargers work with my other Dell Latitude 5490. I have opened and disconnected the battery from the laptop as well as the standard 25 second power reset as recommended. Any ideas?

Dell puts a small ‘third wire’ in their charging systems. It’s not exactly a ground, and not exactly a data wire. It is a simple little pin that tells the computer the charger is legit.

The problem is that many Dell charging female ends are poorly constructed. When I was working on laptops, that was the number one thing I had to replace in Dell’s. If that third wire comes even the slightest bit loose, then you have to open the casing and replace the entire female charging port. Some are easier than others.

The second most common issue I found is that the chip in the battery is fried. Again, Dell puts a little ID chip in their battery packs. If it gets fried, then the battery pack will need to be replaced. I’ve only seen this happen a small handful of times.

The third thing I can think of, and least likely, is a bios or board issue. I know this is a possibility, but it is very unlikely.
