Lady plugged MacBook Air into a power outlet in Africa.

Customer plugged it into a 220V outlet and brought it into our shop. The screen comes on but is very faint, most likely a backlight issue. We hooked up a new macbook air screen and it had the same issue. Could it be the backlight fuse or the backlight circuitry itself? If it is the backlight fuse we can replace it as we have a solder tech. I hope the motherboard does not have any other issues considering she plugged it into that outlet. What do you guys think?

Sorry, meant to say new macbook air screen, not monitor.

Hi @bdrummer813

If the customer is using macsafe original charger, i doubt it is the cause of the issues as the adapters are designed to use in the voltage of 100-240V.

how about external monitor? does it has the same display too?

さんによる

I can test the external monitor I just need to get a thunderbolt to hdmi adapter. That would rule out any gpu issues. There was a bunch of dust on the motherboard and also a few areas where it looked like there was sticky, dried up liquid. I just don't want to do the backlight fuse repair if it won't do anything.

@salmonjapan What if it was an aftermarket charger?

Hi

please Attempt to replace all components 1 by 1 near the. LCD to narrow down the fault and please also Replace the Backlight Fuse.
