2002 Pontiac Grand Am 4

Needing some serious help! My 2002 Pontiac Grand am was turning over fine but the past week it's been delaying when it turns over then it will finally crank. Then today it done the same thing delayed a few times cranked up and died. I took my starter to be tested and it passed they ran it several times to make sure.

It's probably the battery then.

Check the battery cable going to the starter. The thick red one. It may have a bad connection or I have seen the cable corrode from the inside. I would pull the cable off and check it by hand. If it has a good battery and a good starter the only thing left is the battery cable. If you are getting signal to the solenoid and it's trying to start it's losing power to the starter (if the starter is good).

Thanks I will definitely give that a try and update soon!

Please also check the voltage, sometimes the problem can be due to voltage up and down.

What voltage are you talking about? That comment makes no sense.

I am going to check the cables tomorrow when I have daylight but now it's not even turning over.. It just clicks and that's it... also after it clicks when trying to start it I turn the key back and take it out it sounds like something clicking. Could that be the solenoid? They told me it was passing the test at the part store and ran it around 8 times... I don't know much about cars and just paid $90 for a battery thinking that was it.

I've checked the cables and they look good. I've cleaned the ground cables also and still nothing.

Update! I wound up taking the starter to a local rebuild shop and they checked it out.. come to find out that is my problem!! O'Rileys said it was completely fine and passed and when the local shop got it they just looked at it once and said it was bad. They put it on there Machine and it failed. The solenoid and something else was bad on it. They said sometimes places like that are bad about doing people that way so they will replace several things. Basically it's all about money. So $200 plus out on random things it could have possibly been to just find out it was what I thought it was from the beginning which only costed me $30 to have the stuff replaced that was bad. Thanks Everyone for the help!
