Nikon D3400 partially black screen - after being dropped

Someone dropped my camera (Nikon D3400) and it landed bottom first. Thankfully, the lens cap was still on and there was no damage to the lens itself. However, the bottom was slightly chipped and now I noticed that when I take a photo approximately the top quarter of the screen comes out black and the rest of the image is fine. When I look through the viewfinder everything looks normal, but if I switch to live view or take a photo a small part of the screen is black.

Any ideas on what is wrong/ an estimate to fixing this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry for the lengthy post, just wanted to provide all the details! Thank you

Hi @sumzzz,

When you say “…..or take a photo a small part of the screen is black.” do the photos show a complete picture when downloaded and viewed on a computer?

If the downloaded images are OK then most probably there is a problem with the camera’s LCD screen. Either it is faulty or it has a loose flex cable connection due to the fall.

Here’s a video that shows how to replace the LCD screen in your camera. This should allow you to check the cable connection first and if it appears to be OK then to replace the LCD screen (supplier example only to show what it looks like and the cost - there may be other suppliers that suit you better. Just search for Nikon D3400 LCD screen to get results).
