Dishwasher only drains when turned off

My dishwasher (Hotpoint HFC3C26WUK_WH ) gets stuck in the middle of the wash and when I open the door the bottom is full of water. BUT if I turn the dishwasher off, the water drains out, so it doesn’t appear to be a blockage.

We’re currently isolated, so can’t get anyone out to fix it. Is there anything I can do? Anyone got any ideas?

Hi @the_dave ,

Are there any error codes being displayed on the control panel, you didn't say?

Have you checked that the filters in the dishwasher are not clogged?

Hi @jayeff . No there are no error codes - the timer that normally counts down how long is left just stays stuck in the same time.

The filters seem fine, but presumably if the dishwasher drains when turned of they can't be the problem? Or could they? I started checking for a blockage, but turned it off first to be safe. Once I saw it drain I assumed there was no blockage.

@the_dave ,

Not sure regarding your particular model but have read with some Hotpoint models that the wash pump is also a "sensor" in that if it gets harder and harder to pump the water through the machine during the wash action due to clogged filters it will stop and supposedly an error code should be displayed.

have you checked that the spray arm outlets are not clogged?

Also check that the pump is working. Are the dishes wet? try placing the spray arms in a position that you remember and then turn on the machine. After it has filled and started to wash, open the door and check if the arms have moved and that the trays are wet (if you have no dishes in there)

The drain pump is a different pump which behaves the same way except that it just pumps out and if it were blocked due to a kinked hose or blocked drain again it would stop and give a code.

Does it do this on all wash cycle types or only on the one?

I can't find the service manual for your model but you could try this one to see if it is the same procedure to start the diagnostic mode, (see p.10) given that it is the same manufacturer and they usually keep things the same. Maybe worth a try

Also if it works here's the error codes for Hotpoint models, that may help
