Greetings psi.. I dropped my Max pro m1 in water from a metre height in water. it was half dippped in water for about 5 second and was already switched off . Only the upper portion was in water. Then I heated it on gas stove . I also opened the phone afterwards I dried it and then kept it in rice bag. After approx. 8 hrs I tried starting it but it didn't turn on . I kept it on charge for 1hr but it didn't start still. Then I again reopened the phone and saw battery voltage was dropped down. * While on charge there's some sound near fingerprint sensor area when heard closely . Please help me.

Hi @pleasehelp23

As you know water, electronics and electricity are not a good mix.

The impurities in the water causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the phone's operating design and could damage the components. The corrosion starts immediately and is ongoing until it has been properly cleaned away.

Rice does not fix the problems created by corrosion.

Rice is for dinner, not repair

First do not turn on your phone and then you need to remove the battery as soon as possible from the phone to minimize any further damage.

Then you need to dis-assemble the rest of the phone and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available at electronics parts stores) to remove all traces of corrosion etc. Do not use "rubbing alcohol" as in some cases this is only 70% IPA or less, can contain additives and is not as effective. If you do check the label to verify the amount of IPA. The higher the percentage of IPA the better.

Here is a link that describes the process.

Electronics Water Damage

As always with electronics, especially surface mounted PCBs be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the board. You may also have to remove any shields covering the CPU etc as water may have got in under them.

Hopefully after you have done all this the phone might possibly work correctly again.

Here’s a video that shows the dis-assembly of the phone which may help.

If this process seems too daunting, take your phone to a reputable, professional phone repair service, experienced in liquid damage repair and ask for a quote for a repair. If you decide to do this, do it sooner than later.

Actually rice acts as a silica gel which absorbs moisture....(saw on YouTube) Problem is my battery voltage is zero . And all the shops are closed and isopropyl alcohol is already running in shortage (thanx to Corona). But still I'll try cleaning it with brush

@pleasehelp23 ,

It may absorb moisture but it won't absorb where it can't reach e.g. under the shields.

Even thoroughly cleaning it in distilled water and allowing to fully dry is better than doing nothing more than placing it in rice.

Distilled water contains no impurities and therefore does not conduct electricity or promote the unwanted galvanic corrosive or conductive reaction between metals found in any electronics circuit (especially when aided by electricity).

It is always advisable to remove all power source whenever electronics have come into contact with any liquid.

You can believe what you want, but in a few months, problems will start to arise if the device hasn't been properly cleaned.
