Can not read disc? Disc tray malfunction.

Disc is inserted in the drive; it reads but keeps ejecting and inserting by itself, non-stop?

Hi,

Have you tried another disc to check if it still happens, you didn't say?

jayeff, again,

already tried many times, with different disc, mini and regulars;

it keeps ejecting, inserting after a "first scan "? the repleting action is quite fast, have to take the disc out quick to stop it!

this device was left by a relative; I never used before; it looks completely new and shiny; might be a defected product? have not opened the case yet, which I like to check the interior!

suspect it has mechanical, or switch logic defect?

Hi @fixthejunks ,

Does the relative live in the same location as you?

Not being nosey but according to this link the player will reject the disc (although not reinsert it again) if the disc is not from the same “region” as the player. Just a thought on this one and an easy one to eliminate if it is the case.

Also here’s a link to the service manual for the player.

To download the file, click on the reCAPTCHA checkbox below the Document preview box and the click on Go to Download. When the sentence changes from This file is downloadable free of charge (5/day): ...processing... to This file is downloadable free of charge (5/day): Download (pioneer dv-k102 sm) click on Download as this is the link. Be patient as it takes a little while to find the file.

Once you have the manual go to p.47 to see how to view the Mechanism Controller Error codes and what they mean. This should be a good start as to find out what may be wrong.

Also the manual details how to dis-assemble the unit and has a parts list etc which may help as well.

Good luck with the repair

Thank you for the service manual; have just downloaded it;

I had suspected the problem of a disc origins too;

Still it is weird that it keeps going in and out non-stop if not taking out the disc? ?

Jayeff, if you are still there,

After going through the service manual, breifly, and going over few more times the Pioneer problems:

- I don't think the player is reading anything even though scanning noise is heard;

- when press open button, the tray as said before ejects and inserts. back by itself; than sometimes scans again, sometimes just ejects again...

- remote control open/close button does the same ...

- I connected the player to a TV, setup menu is doing good;

- *But "display " button, only on remote control, can not displays any "error codes " or any other "default codes " at all; nothing on the TV screen?

- would there be any "diagnosis disc " required for this display?

- * Is there anything like "weight sensor " designed with the tray? because only when the disc taken out, fast, that the repeating "open/close " commands stops, safely?

- I may discuss this conjecture, for there is another VCD player having similar tray problem ...

@fixthejunks

The error history codes are shown on the TV. Did you press Esc + Display + one shot buttons, one after the other to bring up the display?

I cannot find the Esc button or the "one shot" button when looking at the remote in the user manual but was wondering if the Esc button was actually the "Return" button. I have no idea what the "one shot" button could be. You may have to try combinations of the first two i.e. Return then display plus one other to hopefully bring up something on the TV

The error codes for the mechanism controller errors are displayed on the player's display screen not on the TV screen

To view the codes you have to press ESC + DISPLAY + DISPLAY, i.e return? then display then display.

It more like will be a light sensor that detects if a disc is there or not by the light being blocked, but I haven't checked the circuit out to see if this is correct.

@Jayeff:

went over the manual again;

ESC + Display, once to see the keywords on FL screen;

+ Display, one more to see the codes;

* but nothing even on the first step; the flow chart indicates, logically, FL version error? ?

* I could not display this FL screen yet, but further down the error codes, if the player action is "open " , the code indicates "ID " problems? ? i.e. *Address ? Do you think it is Copy Right?

@Jayeff:

* one more, I found that the tray movements are fast and forceful; I grabbed tight it several times to prevent it insert back, and I feel that kind of force can very well damage position stopper? ?

* If tray position is "dislocated " to the extent that malfunction occurs, where to see the error codes? ?

** Reason is, couple of weeks ago I tore apart one LG DVD Recorder, saw the structure of the tray and the scanner; the mechanical parts and positioning mechanism is susceptible to damages? !
