Won’t turn on or charge.

I haven’t turned on or charged my iPod in at least 8+ years. I was going through boxes yesterday and found it in the bottom of one. It’s been plugged in since when I found it and hasn’t showed any sign of life other than being warm to the touch. That thing is basically a time capsule from my elementary days and I want to go through it and see what my life was like back then. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
