After a screen replacement.. A very thin black line on the left
Hello Ifixit community! Pleasure to ask a first question in the forum. Yesterday, I attempted my first self screen replacement ever, with a screen (without the metal shield) I ordered from Repair Union, a popular Chinese company that sells phone parts. The Iphone XR I had was bought from Ebay, and it worked with no problem, except for a cracked screen. So, I attempted to replace the screen, following the Ifixit guide. When I was done with everything but closing the screen, I made sure the touch worked by dragging an app everywhere on the screen. I don’t know if this line was there then, but my guess would be if it wasn’t there, I think I would have known. Anyways, I went ahead and closed the phone tight. And I think this is when I applied a glass screen protector.
When I turned on the phone, I found white pressure spots on the right corner area of the phone. At this time, I’m not sure if the line was here or not. But if it was, I would have thought the line was an edge of the screen protector.
Anyway, I was busy researching online why these spots were here, snd after several attempts of repair, and by finally re-installing the metal shield, I could fix the screen like a magic. I was so happy.
After that, I thought all was good, still thinking the line was an edge of my glass screen protector.
After awhile, I was annoyed by this line. I believed it was because of the screen protector, but I didn’t want to take it off, because I felt bad about wasting it. But after some consideration, I decided to take it off to enjoy the smooth and raw original screen. When I took the screen protector, the line remained. At first, I thought taking off the screen protector damaged the screen. But later I found that the screen protector was actually big enough to cover the full lighted screen.
So here I am, with an almost perfect brand-new original screen, with a very thine black line by the left bezel. Since I was so excited about getting a new screen and using this phone, and watched more than fifty videos preparing to attempt self-repair for the time, I am disappointed. So I am here wondering if anyone who is more experienced than I am could give me advice to let me know anything that can enlighten me.
I’m wondering, if this can be a result of flex cable damage. I did put pressure on the flex cables, as I tried to get rid of glues on the back of the flex cables for the LCD and digitizer.
Or, could it be something else, such as, dirty connectors?
I did try reinstalling the LCD and digitizer, but no luck.
I don’t understand why, and how, a single, very thin line can appear like this. Could you let me know all the possibilities?
I’m desperately wanting to hear any possible solutions.
I know it’s not a big issue, but the line still bothers me, since the screen was said to be brand-new original. And the hard part is that I don’t remember if the line was there at first, which makes it hard for me to know if this screen came with the line from the beginning. Please help! Thank you.
+By the way, I used a cutter knife the open the screen. And I noticed that because of doing that multiple times, I scratched off a bit the bottom of the back of the screen’s display cable. It reveals bits of gold-yellow metal. Could this be the reason?
+ Also, i broke the small bracket (picture) attached to the logic board connector bracket. Could this be the reason for the line?
