I have a green vertical line 3” wide almost in the center, has been on and off and sometimes not totally solid. Can be running days without showing

Time to open the system and give it a good dust out! I’m suspecting your logic board is overheating. These monitors can cook with not much dust.Apple Thunderbolt Display LCD Replacement
Get a small soft pant brush and a can of can’ed air to blow the loose dust away after loosing it with the brush.
Clean the fans as well!
