Why is there a burnt smell coming out of my bottom freezer?
I can smell a burnt smell coming from my freezer when I open the door. I have no idea what is causing this. Any suggestions as to what is causing this is appreciated.

This can be any number of failing components. Best to pull it out and inspect it closely. This should not be ignored!
My first thought was a failing defrost unit.

What is a failing defrost unit and would that cause ice forming on bottom of freezer?
Also, when I pull it out, what am I looking for?
Defrost Heater Assembly
The defrost heater assembly turns on several times throughout the day to melt away any frost that may have accumulated on the evaporator coils. If the defrost heater assembly is defective, the defrost system will not work, and frost will continue to accumulate on the evaporator coils. To determine if the defrost heater is defective, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the defrost heater does not have continuity, replace it.
Look for burn indicators.
