Problem with SSD drive and erasing data

Hi all

I'm having a problem with my SSD on my MacBook, It got currupted

So I went to Disk Utility tried to repair it said it wasn't possible, because it could not be unmounted.

So I tried to re-install OSX ( Catalina beta 4 ) and it say my drive hadn't enough space

Logged again, try to delete some files, but the files after emptied the trash, if I rebooted, where back to the HD.

So I formatted my external HD, installed OSX there, booted, and went to Disk Repair again, Erased my old HD ( the SSD one ), it still say that I need more 400mb to install OSX. Erased the partition, and still said I need more 400mb.

What can I do from here?

That is currently my situation, I'm running from an external HD, but when I go to disk utility and ask to erase the old partition, it does, but it doesn't work.

This print is just right after I erase the drive

And if I try to install a new OS on that drive, it says it doesn't have enough free room.

How do I erase this drive is the problem

Not really up to all the ins and outs of Mac's but you might want to make a Gparted linux based USB or DVD (whichever is most appropriate) and boot your computer with it. Might give you a better aspect of what's going on with SSD rather than strictly relying on Apple software.

Or if you make a bootable linux distribution such as Ubuntu or Linux Mint, gparted is included in the software. Just a thought.

@marcelo_wolf - The 'Other Volumes' (Grey space) is the problem! Some how you need to get rid of them. as the free space is what your installer is trying to use not the full drive.

The easiest way here is to create a bootable external OS installer following this guide: How to create a bootable macOS Mojave installer drive Then using it to reformat your drive and then install Mojave. If you want to play with Catalina I would recommend setting it up on an external drive Vs the internal that way without risking your day to day stuff.

You don’t need to jump to some other OS here.

Within Disk Utility you can re-size or delete partitions and the APFS containers it holds. I’ve not tried this within Catalina yet. Within Mojave if you first click on the left Container disk1 and then click on the Partition icon you’ll get this message:

Apple File System Space Sharing

APFS volumes share storage space within a container, occupying a single partition. Adding and deleting APFS volumes is faster and simpler than editing a partition map.
To add a new volume to a container without seeing this message, use the Add APFS Volume command in the Edit menu or the Add/Delete Volume toolbar item.
Would you like to add a volume to the container, or partition the device?

If you click on the upper level drive on the left you should now have access to the erase icon and now clicking on it should zero the drive. If not lets try formatting it with some other format like exFAT that should rid the drive of any elements that’s messing us up. Then restart your system using the external drive again and now go back into Disk Utility to format the drive as APFS (GUID). Again restart your system and enter into Internet recovery to install Mojave if you don’t have a bootable USB thumb drive with the OS installer on it.

Thanks for the reply, found out that in the default disk utility view it show the volumes and not the hard drives.

You can change that on the left corner, after changing that I was able to delete de SSD HD, reformat and re-install OSX, now everything is working fully again.
