Why new Philips 32PFS6402 turns on itself?

Hi!

My new Philips 32PFS6402 turns on from stand-by itself with no reason.

Philips helpdesk keeps continuing that:

1) Update software! DONE!

2) Is your Automatic Channel Update “off”? YES, OFF!

3) Is your Channel Update Messages “off”? YES, OFF!

4) Have you changed the batteries in remote? YES!

5) Do you have Philips monitors in the same room with power sensors? NO! THIS OLD S… IN OTHER ROOM HAS EVER SEEN ANY POWER SENSORS!

6) Maybe your remote on/off button has short circuit? HOW SHOULD I KNOW, BUT IT DEFINITELY WONT TURN TV OFF BY ITSELF WHILE WATCHING IT! WHAT KIND OF SELECTIVE SHORT CIRCUIT THIS COULD BE?

7) Maybe your neighbours have same TV-sets and they can influence it? NO! I CHECKED EVERY NEIGHBOUR, BUT THIS WAS LIKE IDIOCRACY, BECAUSE CLOSEST OF THEM LIVES 30 YARDS FROM ME (I HAVE A PRIVATE HOUSE) AND OF COURSE, NO-ONE HAS PHILIPS! :)

8) Are sure that you have updated software? YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS, WE CHECKED IT TOGETHER 5 MINUTES AGO!

9) Starting form the beginning… No offer to change the TV, no offer to investigate it.

And so and so and so. Actually its quite annoying when you wake up in the middle of the night hearing some replays from really bad Turkish soap operas… So now i unplug it for nighttime. But children cant start TV without adults. Anyone has any clues how to finish this madness except throwing this TV to a garbage can? Charity would be an option, of course…

Good point, thanks! I removed the batteries and hasnt turned on again. This is kind of strange, that it couldnt turn the TV off, but only on. However, thanks for advice and now i can start with Philips again. They were quite reluctant taking it into warranty until i find the problem myself. And your question was very propriate- where am i… Its small European country called Estonia and here the warranty-system probably is not so well oiled as in US.

Thanks again!

@peeppoiss nothing wrong with Estonia. Trust me that whole warranty business is never easy to get accomplished. No matter what country you live in :-)

Glad I could help you out, best of luck to you.

I had the same problem for a couple of days. First I thought it was Wakeon lan/wifi when a device, light, etc. is sending a broadcast packet, but that was not the case. I even made several packetcaptures on all trafic going to the television, and it was not that. And even after switching off wifi, unplugging my ethernet cable the television keeped turning on. So WTF.. so in the end I found that it is my apple keyboard that is connected with usb and that keyboard also had a mouse connected. And moving the mouse turns on the screen. Somehow the mouse make small movements on it's own and that is enough to turn on the tv. That was the issue in my case anyway :-)

Not just you. They lied. I'm in 3rd identical tv, identical problem…and the forums are flooded with this issue!!!

I had the same problem when I was still using my Samsung Galaxy S9 plus in the same room as the 32PFS6402.

If I put the phone "face down" I had no issues. As far as I could analyze, the notification LED from my phone could randomly switch on the TV.

@peeppoiss you mentioned that this is a new Philips 32PFS6402 I am not sure where you are but since it is new philips should cover this under their warranty:

“In the unlikely event of a failure of the product, Philips will arrange for your Philips product to be serviced, free-of-charge when you inform us of the defect within the warranty period, provided that the product was used in accordance with the user manual (e.g. in the intended environment). For some product categories a partner company of Philips is the warrantor of the product; please check the documentation supplied with your product.” The warranty period in the USA for the product categories mentioned in the heading of this document is 12 months.

There are plenty of things that could cause this. Yes, I’d check the remote first. Unplug the battery and see if your TV will still come on by itself. If not you know it’s the remote. If it does you will have to check the IR board and/or the main board. For that you’d have to remove the back of the TV and visually inspect those boards for any obvious damage. You can also post some good clear pictures of your boards with your question. That way we can see what you see iFixitでの質問に画像を追加する方法

I too had this problem, turning itself on every 2 hours, I only had it for 5 days so returned it, although I would like another but scared it will happen again, philips said it sounds like an isolated case and they have nothing on their system to show any one else has the same problem ?

And it was the 70in one so taking it on and off the wall is a bit of a pain
