How salvageable is my MacBook Pro?
- Skip to the end if you wanna see the real issue, the beginning is just the backstory*
Approximately 32 hours ago i dropped a quarter of a glass of water on my macbook’s keyboard.
i know the drill. Unplug from power and turn off instantly and drain the laptop while its flipped.
Instantly i rushed home but couldn’t find my pentalobe screws so i had to wait 12 hrs until shops were open again to get one.
I opened the the back cover and find these 3 small areas with some apparent corrosion (bluish and whitish in color).
So i grabbed my 99% isopropyl alcohol and brushed most of the board until those areas looked fine and clean.
left the laptop an extra day to dry and tried to turn it on today but the charger wouldn’t light and the laptop wont turn on.
i opened it up again for another inspection and found this component blown
i completely missed this earlier but now i see in the photos i took first that this was there originally.
im stunned and have no clue what is happening here and my biggest concern is whether or not this can be replaced and re-soldered. (An estimation of how much these things would cost would be helpful as well.
i would really appreciate your help!
Update (08/20/2019)
Im really hoping that it would be fixed by simply cleaning the motherboard with an ultra sonic cleaner and replacing the faulty component.
At the moment im puzzled by what happened with the component. I don’t understand if this could have been caused by water damage or if it was there the entire time. It doesnt look burnt it just crack in the middle
