I assume that monitor is the problem here. Before going furthermore and troubleshooting confirm if it is just the monitor that does not working. If it is not just the monitor it can be the BIOS misconfiguration in motherboard. Clearing CMOS might fix the problem. After that Press and hold power button for more than 5 seconds. Then try to power on and see if it is boot normally.

@elsa_bailey - Mac's are different than Windows PC's. Here we don't have an accessible BIOS setup. We do have a NVRAM or PRAM which holds settings and you can reset it Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac and we have a SMC chip which may need resetting as well How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

But from what Jeromy wrote in his question I don't think resetting these will fix his issue.

@thelife - Do you have access to a external monitor which you can plug into your system so we can see if the display has failed. The other direction is to take a flashlight resting on the display as t sharp angle to see if you can make out the faint image of your desktop icons. If you can then you know the displays backlight has failed. If you can’t you can have a bad dedicated GPU board.

The next test I would try is to see if your system can get into Target Disk Mode. Restart your system and hold the ‘‘‘T’’’ key are you able to see the FireWire Icon on the screen? If not your logic board has an issue

Let us know what you discover.
