Sony XBR-65A9F 3 Blink/Flashing help

My second hand (aka no Warranty) XBR-65A9F OLED goes into standby with a 3 blink fault. The 3 blink fault is either a power board or the mainboard failure. I’ve replaced both the mainboard and the power board. I know I’m supposed to do a software update on the mainboard, but I can’t get it powered on long enough to apply the update. Tv will boot to the Android boot screen then click off with the error code. I’m frustrated because I can’t get this thing up and running. Any help is appreciated.

Here is a pic of the power board that I replaced; mainboard is below the power board.

Hey did you ever resolve this, I’m having a similar issue, my light is blinking 4 times, changed t-con board, still 4 blinks, could it be the power board?

I have the same issue with a KD-55AF9. I have replaced all boards in this t.v but still not working.

It’s frustrating without a service manual, but trying haha.

I had a Green/Orange flashing light after I replaced the t-con and tried to update via USB, but no activity at all.

Hope you fix yours.

Wow...Dude did you ever get your XBR-65A9F working? It's like almost 2 years since your post. I have the same TV, won't power on and after a few minutes I get 8 blinks on a red LED. Got a CPU board coming but based upon your situation, Im thinking it may not change anything. In for a penny in for a pound? I might have to walk away.

@Brad Short I actually chatted w/Sony support and they sent a tech out (My Cost) to swap my CPU & TCon boards. The tech ended up breaking the connector at the end of a ribbon cable and Sony ended up swapping the TV out for a 65” A9G. Apparently, the ribbon cable he broke came from the panel itself and couldn’t be replaced. Two weeks later, Sony had the 65” A9G delivered and I’ve watched it ever since. I have hope for your CPU swap, I was told by Sony chat the 8 blinks is due to a failed software update…keep me updated as to how the swap goes.

@sioomagates

isolate the other boards and let us know what you get. Just keep the mainboard and power board connected and let us know what and how many blinks you get. Disconnect the audio board/ speaker as well. Post some images of your boards and the interconnect cables with your question so we can see what you see. You also want to let us know if the new main and power board changed anything or if you had the identical errors before iFixitでの質問に画像を追加する方法

@oldturkey03 Thanks! I’ll isolate the speakers, mainboard and see what error codes are thrown afterwards. I think (?) the T-Con board on this unit is a part of the mainboard. Honestly, there is not much to this TV all I see is two boards the power and the mainboard. I’ve added a pic of the power board that I replaced to the original post. Prior to replacing the mainboard and power board I had the same error code (3 blinks/flashes) as I do now once I’ve replaced both boards. I’ll dig into it tomorrow afternoon and report back. Do you know if I can enter into the service menu while it’s throwing the error codes? I’ve also tried a hard reset for Android TV’s per the instructions on the Sony site and nothing. When doing the hard reset, the TV boots and responds but after about 30 seconds it “clicks” at the power board and it throws the 3 blink/flash error.

Since both boars are new I figured that it is something that has not been changed that causes this. In some of the manuals I have it mentions that the audio can shut it down as well. Just trying to do this by exclusion. If it would be a software or firmware error it would not shut off like this.

@oldturkey03 I isolated the boards from the panel and I’m getting a white light with no errors when pull the blue ribbon cable from the mainboard; restart with the ribbon cable attached and it boots for 30 seconds does the full android start up with the Bravia logo then the power board clicks and its back to the 3 blinks/flashes. I’m getting the same 3 blink error when I pulled the speakers and the center channel input from the mainboard, with everything besides the speakers attached. There are only two boards and there is not a separate t-com board unless it’s between the frame and the panel. 1 of 2

@oldturkey03 For giggles I put the original power board back into the unit and the left speaker started clicking when everything was connected back together. I don’t think the original power board is bad, because that’s where I’m getting the white light with no errors when the blue ribbon cable is off the mainboard. I’m going to research and see if there’s a T-Con board hiding between the case and the panel. It could be the t-con board?

I uploaded new pics to my original post. Any thoughts? I’m really not wanting it to be the panel but it’s looking that way. It’s just strange it’s throwing a power board/audio error instead of a panel error. 2 of 2

I was surprised to see that speakers are listed as a cause for the three blinks as well. Follow the ribbon cables from the main board and see where they terminate
