Built-in display mostly stays black but sometimes displays perfectly
Previously my iMac Built-in display randomly went black but once restarted, worked fine. Now mostly stays black except occasionally it displays perfectly at the startup but goes black in approx. 10-30 secs and sometimes it randomly displays perfectly for about 2-3 secs while I am using it.
I now use an external monitor and works perfectly fine.
Recently my local apple repair shop as part of diagnostic process, replaced the LCD panel with another working used LCD panel from Late 2009 model and it worked fine.
Does this mean that I should replace it with a used LCD panel as a best solution?
My LCD panel seems to work fine when it stays on but what could be the problem? Any suspected bad connection within LCD panel with this model?
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!
I'm a bit confused?? The original problem was fixed with a used display which worked. Time has pasted and the problem has happened again?
Are you sure you don't have the system going to sleep either by time or setting?

I didn't proceed with getting the used LCD panel. My current LCD, though goes black, when it works for 10-30 secs, it seems to be displaying fine. So the problem seems to be related to the LCD panel, would it be any connection or component in this panel? The system is not set for sleep while I am using it with an external monitor. If I can't find a fix for my current LCD panel, then I have 2 options. 1. Replace it with a used LCD panel at my local repair shop, 2. Continue use the external monitor. Thank you.

@andyswan Well it seems like you found the solution then. I doubt there is anything connection wise that would be bad that could be fixed without pulling the display panel apart and soldering, and not many places do that. My guess is that there is an issue with power to the backlight. When the screen is off you can try shinning a really bright light on it to see if there is an image, but there isn't an easy fix for that. I would go for the LCD replacement, since that fixed the issue for you.
