Make sure you’re using the correct type (HE) and amount of detergent, as something as simple as this can create problems for these machines. Using too much or the wrong type just might be making too much suds. If you’re uncertain, just look in your owners manual and follow their instructions about this. This is a simple and inexpensive fix, if it turns out to be the problem.
If the machine drains and spins properly at the end of the rinse cycle it tells you that the electrical circuitry and mechanical parts required for draining and spinning are all working just fine. This means your problem is something different, and exclusive to some failure or dynamic occurring and interfering only during or at the end of the wash cycle.
Comparing the two cycles, everything is virtually the same - (abbreviated and simplified) inlet valve opens, water comes in until level switch detects enough water, inlet valve closes, slight delay, then agitator starts & runs until timed agitation cycle completes, slight delay, drive motor starts, engages pump, draining begins, brake releases, and spinning begins. One difference in the two cycles is the use of laundry products (No suds issue to possibly interfere during the rinse cycle, for one thing).
The only other thing I can think of as possibly the problem would be an issue with the control board, in which case your only option would be to replace it. This is an easy repair, but an expensive part. Good Luck!!

Hi @needawasherpls ,
On the wash cycle, does the water stop filling the tub before the wash action starts or does it continue to fill whilst it is agitating?
Does it drain OK at the end of the wash cycle?
Does the control knob step around from the wash cycle to the rinse cycle OK?
Thing is that it shouldn't drain during the wash cycle it should be washing in the water that's in there, but it should drain at the end of the wash cycle so that it can refill to the selected level with clean water for the rinse cycle.
Does it also continue to fill during the rinse cycle?
If the water continues to fill during the wash cycle and the rinse cycle there may be a problem with the water level pressure sensor which tells the machine to turn off the water when the selected level is reached.
Is there water in the tub in the morning before you start to wash the laundry?
If so you may have a leaking water inlet solenoid in the machine which may continue to fill the machine when it should be closed.

Washing machine drains fine on spin cycle and not wash cycle
