My Acer laptop takes a long time to start, including a few beeps,

My Acer laptop takes a long time to start, including a few beeps, BUT once it starts it woks great except for the screen going black occasionally. I have plugged a HDML output into my TV and when the laptop screen is black, the screen is fine on the TV. So it's not a processor problem, just display.

ANY IDEAS???
