CUH-1215A beeps once, lights up then shuts off. . Fan spins and stops.

Hi all,

My CUH-1215A Playstation stopped working the other day. I am not 100% sure but I suspect the person that cleans my house must have dropped it.

Before taking it apart, when I pressed the power button I would hear 1 beep, the blue light would come on for maybe 5-10 seconds and then go away. I also noticed weird noises coming from the optical disk drive. For me to get the beep again, I would have to unplug the power cable and plug it back in just for the same thing to happen again.

I decided to take a closer look and take the console apart. I first removed the hard drive, but still had the same symptoms mentioned above. Then, I removed the optical disk drive in hopes of it booting.. but no go. Finally, I purchased a new power supply and replaced it but unfortunately that made no difference. Now that I can see inside the console the fan turns on for a few seconds when the power button is pressed but then shuts off a few seconds later no matter what I do.

Ive tried holding the power button down for X amount of seconds but it does nothing.

Nothing comes up on the TV.

I came across a few posts where users suggested putting washers under the heat sink however my model seems different as my heat sink is UNDER the metal chassis and screwed directly to the board.

I really want to avoid having to shell out for a new PS4 so I am hoping that you guys can help me figure this out!

Thank you in advance!!!!

Edit: I also just noticed, even when the blue light goes out and the fan stops spinning I get a beep every time I hit the eject button.

The PS4 has most likely been dropped and the solder joints under the main processor have become loose / broken.

Having it reflowed properly would fix this problem but is quite a costly repair. I use a BGA reflow station to fix these consoles that have a problem around $120 AUD.

Hi

Thanks for the reply! Yes I figured this may be the issue. Is the chip called the “Hdmi controller ic chip” or is this a different chip? I see services being offered to replace this chip or is it most likely a different chip?

HDMI chip would result in no display but the PS4 would stay on.

For the turn off after turning on it would be caused by the main processor chip it's the big one that sits right under the heatsink cooling plate.

Thanks. Does the eject button still make noise when the ps4 is “off” but still plugged in? I know for sure the light goes out and the fan stops spinning. Not sure if it’s fully off or what.
