My electric golf cart will not go uphill and losses power quickly.

When golf cart gets just slightly below a full charge it will not go uphill. It will go on flat land. Battery voltage was a little low but batteries still tested good.

I have a 1972 EZGO 36 V golf cart and I think the battery charger didn’t turn off and it was on for a month. I checked the batteries they’re all good put a load test on them. They are all good so something else let loose. When I step on the pedal and forward or reverse, I have nothing no beep from reverse or anything. Could it be as easy as just a solenoid?

@satterfield you want to go ahead and load test the batteries to see their real condition. Your batteries may have the proper voltage and may not hold a charge under load. Even one bad battery can affect the performance of your cart. You should also check the voltage drop while driving uphill. Get some alligator clip test leads and connect those between positive and negative connection your cart and your meter and let us know what voltage drop you experience while you drive. For anything else we need to know what make model and year your cart is to determine if this is a controller issue etc.

In order to go up hill it uses a lot more battery then regular and all these reasons just point me to say that you should replace your battery.

I have just bought new batteries and cart is still slow going up the slightest hill

Change the solenoid probably has a very slight break and is shorting and causing this slow moving.

Tested all batteries, 5@6.27v & 1 @ 6.22v

In your control Box under the seat for a battery powered cart there’s what they call a “personality plug”. There’s 3 types. One high end speed, one regular, and one that lets you get up hills faster. You can get them on Amazon for around 10 bucks each. You can put it in by yourself as there’s tons of YouTube videos out there for install. With the one that gets you up the hill faster, it’ll also make you slower on even ground, lower your top end. It’s like different rear end gearing in your car.

My cart will not go up a hill at all and it will be showing a full charge. Heck straight off the plug so I know it's reading right at full charge.

I had a similar problem with my golf cart. However, by following these steps, I solved the issue.

TLC for Batteries: I checked for corrosion or gunk on the battery terminals and cleaned them up. Corrosion disrupts electricity flow and causes power loss. Also, I made sure the battery cables were firmly connected because loose connections can mess with performance.

Charge It Right: I made it a habit to fully charge the batteries after each use. Turns out, even a slightly below full charge can affect uphill travel. So, keep those batteries juiced up to the max for optimal performance.

Battery Capacity Test: Although the batteries tested fine, I did a thorough capacity test. Using a battery load tester and following the manufacturer's guidelines, I checked for diminished capacity. Replacing batteries with reduced capacity restored the power I needed.

Hill Assist Check: If your cart has a hill assist feature, make sure it's engaged properly. Sometimes mechanical or electrical issues can prevent it from activating. Consult your user manual or seek professional help if needed.

These steps worked like a charm for me, and I'm confident they'll do the same for you!
