it goes to wash just clicks and sits there

I have a washer it will come on water will come in then it goes to wash just clicks and sits there. If you move knob to rinse it will drain . keeps clicking the whole time . what do I do very frustrated

What is the make and model number of the washer?

Does the cycle timer control move and step on to spin after you have selected rinse?

If not the cycle timer may be faulty.
